Police Abuse-of-Power

Whenever people disrespect rights, they may also abuse power.  Someone accused local businessman Chris Lauridsen of possible “animal cruelty” for leaving his dogs in his car briefly on a cold Provo day in early 2009.  When an animal control officer arrived to investigate, Chris felt confident that he was acting within his rights, and stood up for them accordingly, which led to a Provo police officer initiating a violent attack upon him that left him brutally beaten.  This may have been an isolated incident; if so, then let’s hope that it remains so.
